KMC to hold Sports Gala soon

Administrator Karachi Laeeq Ahmed on Saturday said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) would soon hold Sports Gala in which sports events be held across the city.
While distributing prizes at KMC Under-16 Cricket Tournament here, the administrator said that sports play vital role in uplifting the society, stated a press release issued on Saturday.
Prominent figure Professor Aijaz Farooqui, Ghulam Muhammad Khan, Senior Director Culture and Sports Syed Khursheed Shah, Director Sports Complex Kanwar Muhammad Ayub, Naheed Abida, Kaiful Wara, Shahid Nawab and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
The administrator said that win and loss are part of the game that gives opportunities to fight, and strive to do the best. Sportspersons are mentally and physically healthier than a common man.
Ahmed said that besides cricket, hockey, football, table tennis, squash, boxing and other sports would also be promoted in Karachi to enable the youth to indulge in healthy activities and make fame for the city.
He said that KMC Sports Complex, other playgrounds and stadiums would also be upgraded, adding that Sindh government is fully ready to support the KMC in this regard.
“Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah wants Karachi a peaceful city and a centre of sports activities,” the Administrator added.
He was of the view that 95 per cent work is completed for construction of international level football stadium at KMC Sports Complex, adding that matches would be held at stadium after completion of remaining works soon.
The Administrator said that 3000 expectators could see football matches live at the stadium. Ahmed on the occasion, distributed a trophy and Rs 200,000 to winner Dawood Cricket Academy and Rs 100,000 to runners up tram.
The KMC under 16 Cricket Tournament continued for one month and prominent cricketers took part in it.
Meanwhile the Administrator Karachi Laeeq Ahmed on Saturday visited different areas of the city to review works of cleanliness, plantation, road construction and repairing of street light.
Director General Works Shabeeh ul Hassan Zaidi, Director Parks and Horticulture Taha Saleem, Chief Engineers and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
During his visit to MT Khan Road and My Colachi, the Administrator directed to do lane marking and install reflectors as these make the driving easy. He also passed directives for plantation of seasonal plants at green belts as well as fixing of street lights on the road.
While visiting Native Jetty Bridge, he said that joint expansion of the bridge would be replaced and road carpeting, street lights and boundary wall would be established with a cost of Rs220 million.
Director General Works and Services while briefing the Administrator said that the expansion joints were installed in 1997 and the same have completed their term. He said that mostly heavy traffic coming from the post pass through the bridge.
Ahmed passed directives for immediate repairing to make the bridge motorable. He said that joint expansion would be replaced soon after availability of the funds.
The administrator also visited Dockyard Road, ICI Bridge and other areas and passed directives for immediate repairing of the roads wherever necessary. He said that street lights have made functional almost every part of the city while remaining lights would also be made functional.
Ahmed said that road construction, fixing of street lights issues, tree plantation and restoration of playgrounds is topmost priority of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation as these are basic necessities of the people.
