KMC Council demands release of Rs162 billion Karachi Package

General Body meeting of the Council of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has demanded the release of Rs162 Karachi Package which was announced by the federal government.

The general body meeting of the Council of KMC was held in the Council Hall of KMC Building on Thursday, stated a press release, released by Media Department of KMC.

According to it the Deputy Mayor Arshad Hasan presided over the meeting whereas the Metropolitan Commissioner and Secretary of the Council Dr. Syed Saif-ur-Rehman also attended the meeting during which the council gave approval of an 18 point agenda with various private resolutions.

The council through a resolution expressed concern on the delay in the release of Rs162 billion Karachi Package that was announced in a meeting of the Karachi Transformation Committee.

The council demanded release of Rs162 billion funds along with the package for current year so the city condition could improve.

Through another resolution the council members gave approval of the up-gradation of school of nursing in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital into college of nursing and the SNE for appointment of teaching staff and other necessities according to Pakistan Nursing Council.

The council also passed resolution with majority of votes on the appreciation of 16 member KMC Urban Search & Rescue team which performed well in rescue and search operation after the collapse of a residential building in Sukker.

Other resolutions which were passed by the council include the maintenance of graveyards, right of collection of license fee for chicken meat shops, repairing of fire tenders, amendment in the rate of fee for raw skin in the KMC slaughter house, providing of janitorial service in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, naming of bridge near Rashid Minhas Road after Major Adeel Shahid Shaheed, gate entry fee of Zulfikarabad Oil Tankers parking terminal, entry of residential apartments in KMC jurisdiction in the record of rights, scrutiny fee for plots under building plan, increase in lease rates, up-gradation of different KMC posts, registration of graveyards and handing over of city cemeteries to the chairmen of the area with construction of boundary wall of Mauripur Truck Stand and parking rights.

The house also offered fateha on the demise of former federal minister Syed Safwanullah, former chief election commissioner Fakhar uddin G. Ibrahim, poet Arif Shafiq and for those who died in the recent rains and land sliding in Azad Kashmir and other parts of the country and those killed in the vehicle fire incident in North Karachi. The council also demanded better treatment of the injured and shifting of affectees to safe places, the press release concluded.
